Playing House

This weekend, we could have gone to the Hamptons Film Festival or to the Vimeo Festival, but instead we stayed in Roseland, NJ and watched three young boys who are like my little brothers as I used to live with them when I arrived in the US in 2004.

Ce weekend, à défaut d'aller au Hamptons Film Festival ou à la réception du festival de Vimeo, nous avons gardé trois jeunes garçons qui sont comme mes petits frères puisque j'ai vécu avec eux pendant presque 2 ans à mon arrivée aux US en 2004.

J, M & D spend a lot of time playing video games and fighting each other so you have to make sure that they are not in the same room for too long otherwise you're good for a fight and a punishment. On Friday, I picked up J&M from school and then we made dinner: homemade hamburgers with sweet potato fries and salad of course! After dinner, we played Life and then everybody went to bed.

J, M & D passent beaucoup de temps sur les consoles de jeux et comme tous les garçons, ils se battent souvent. Il faut donc faire attention à ne pas les laisser dans la même pièce trop longtemps, sinon c'est sûr qu'ils vont se tomber dessus et seront bons pour écoper d'une punition. Vendredi, j'ai récupéré J&M à l'école et ensuite nous avons préparé le repas du soir: des burgers faits maison avec des frites de patates douces et de la salade bien sûr! Une fois le repas fini, nous avons joué à Destins et on a mis tout ce petit monde au lit vers 22h30.

In the morning, we woke up to the sound of J&M fighting over the Xbox game... it was 7:15am! So they got punished, I took the remotes away and decided that they will take turns to play. After breakfast, M started playing and J worked on his homework. It's unbelievable how much homework they can get at this age! J is only in 7th grade and he works until 10pm or later during the week... that's insane! I don't know how he's organized but playing two instruments might be too much for him to deal with...

M and D started their homework at 9am. Once we checked everything, I put the gas on and flipped the crepes for lunch!

Nous nous sommes réveillés au cris de J&M qui se battaient pour un jeux Xbox... il était 7h15! Du coup, il a fallu pousser une gueulante de bon matin! J'ai pris les manettes et instauré un cycle: 1h de jeux chacun, non mais! Après le petit déj, M a commencé sa session jeux et J a commencé ses devoirs. C'est impressionnant la dose de devoirs qu'il a déjà, en 5ème! Il bosse parfois jusqu'à 22h en semaine! Je ne sais pas comment il est organisé mais jouer deux instruments de musique ne doit pas arranger son emploi du temps déjà bien assez chargé...Une fois les devoirs terminés, nous avons fait les crêpes salées et sucrées.

The rest of the day went pretty well, no huge fight. I took D to his scout meeting and M to fix his android while D and Choup went to the grocery store for the BBQ. That evening, we invited Damien & Jenny for dinner. After wings and shrimps on the BBQ with salad, we ended up playing guitar hero until 11pm.
Le reste de la journée s'est bien passé, pas de disputes. J'ai emmené D à son rdv scout et M a Verizon pour fixer son Android pendant que D et Choup sont allés faire les courses pour le repas du soir. Nous avons invité Damien & Jenny pour le barbecue. Après des ailes de poulets et des crevettes accompagnés du bonne salade, nous avons fini la soirée sur Guitar hero.

Sunday, we took the boys out for lunch and then went to play mini golf. J&D went to the driving range with Choup while M and I took mini golf. After that, we drove to Eagle Rock Memorial and went for ice-cream on the way back to Mark & Julie's. J decided to go to his friend's house for a sleepover so with the other two we had a movie night.

Dimanche, nous sommes sortis déjeuner dehors et avons ensuite fait deux groupes pour le golf. J, D et Choup sont allés tirer des balles de golf pendant que M et moi avons fait un parcours de mini golf. Ensuite nous nous sommes rendus au Mémorial d'Eagle Rock et sur le chemin du retour nous avons pris des glaces chez Mark & Julie. Le soir, J a décidé d'aller passer la nuit chez un ami et de notre côté nous avons fait une soirée film avec du popcorn.

On Columbus day, D is the only one who has school so I took M to a play-date and then I picked J&M up to go back home. At 5pm, I took J&D to their music classes. Another dinner with the kids and then mum&dad (finally) came back home! A long weekend running around after 3 wild boys and now we're looking forward to the next weekend!

Lundi est un jour férié (la découverte de l'Amérique par Christophe Colomb) donc les plus grands n'avaient pas école, seul D devait y aller. J'ai donc amené M pour passer 4h avec son copain puis j'ai récupéré J&M pour passer le reste de la journée à la maison. Ensuite arriva 17h et l'heure des leçons de musique pour J&D. Un autre diner avec les garçons et (enfin) Maman&Papa sont rentrés! Un bien long weekend, épuisant, à courir et faire la loi pour 3 garnements et un chien... et maintenant faut attendre le prochain weekend pour se reposer!
