Into the wild!

Memorial Day weekend is always the starting point for Summer, meaning everybody's heading to the beach. Well this year we decided to do something different. We went up to the mountains in New Paltz, NY (Ulster County).
After spending Friday night with Keith and Alex and their newborn baby (almost 3 weeks old) Cooper, we hit the road on Saturday morning and drove on 52 W and 209 N heading to the Quiet Mountain Sanctuary. After 1h15 of driving, we arrived to our retreat for the weekend.
We met with our hosts, Jahnavi and Al, we discovered our huge suite with the jacuzzi and decided to go on a hike on their property. We were gone for 4 hours, walking on the trail, enjoying the river and coming back to the house, we got ready for dinner and drove to have dinner at The Friends & Family II Hillside Restaurant where we had a great meal.*
We drove back home, turned the jacuzzi on (it needed an hour to fill up) and then we had a good night sleep in order to be ready for another long walk on Sunday.
Sunday morning, we had a great breakfast made by Jahnavi (vegetarian only). We had so much to eat that we didn't need to eat lunch! We left at 10:30am, drove to the trail we chose to do on that day based on Al's recommendations. We even took the subi on her first own trail! Going up the hill and then we parked where campers set their tents and everything and we hit the snowmobile trail to end up at a higher level of the river were the falls were bigger!
We went above that bridge and kept walking until we could find a quiet spot. Indeed that part of the river was really busy, we were not on a private property anymore! We sat on 2 big rocks on the middle of the river and stayed there listening to nothing but the sound of the river and the birds for almost an hour. It was so peaceful!
Quel calme!
We came back to the house around 2pm and took a nap at the pool enjoying the not-so-warm sun of the mountain.
Then, for our last night, we went back to the Hillside Restaurant and had another (different from the previous day of course) meal which was very tasty! Once back at the house, we turned on the jacuzzi and enjoyed the last night we had here.
After great pancakes (hmmm the best pancakes I ever ate!), we packed, checked out, said goodbye and drove back home. It was a really nice place to discover (thank you Choup for finding it) and I hope we can go hiking more often now that we have the perfect car for that!

*No need to say that the house was really remote and that we needed to take the car and drive at least 20min to find a place to eat which is why it was so perfect to be there, we really felt like we were away from everything!
