Florida in June

Since the rain and cold weather decided to stay a bit longer in the area, we decided to move south and get some baking hot temperatures and sunburns. We met with Antoine and Johanna at JFK for a direct flight to Tampa (home of the Yankees pre-season camp, yay). After the landing, we got in a car and drove to St. Petersburg (the American one) for a short night. We had all the pleasure in the morning to discover the backyard view of the house and a sweet BBQ. Of course, the time was set to fill the fridge and we went on to the grocery store. Breakfast, lunch and dinner with appropriate drinks of course, all was covered!

En ce mois de juin, ayant marre du mauvais temps et autres températures froides sur NY nous décidons de prendre quelques jours pour la Floride et ses plages ensoleillées. Départ donc le jeudi soir de JFK où nous attendaient sagement Antoine et Johanna, pour Tampa et plus précisément St. Petersbourg. Après une 40-aine de minutes de voiture, nous arrivons à notre lieu de résidence pour ces quelques jours, que nous découvrons avec grand plaisir! Le lendemain matin, après une bonne nuit de sommeil, la mission première consistait à remplir le frigo de bons petits produits ainsi que des liquides de tous genres!

The sun was already up and turned on at around 90 degrees, so we went to the beach and tried to cool off... Unsucessfully since the water was as hot as on the outside, but at least we didn't have any trouble getting in! After getting our bodies all sprayed up for the baking session, the boys went snorkeling and found some pretty cool shells and fish species (no Nemo though :p), while the girls were reading/baking...

Le soleil était déjà levé et a commencé à chauffer, donc direction plage pour essayer de faire descendre la température de quelques degrés... Nous découvrons que l'eau est à la même température, au moins nous n'avons pas d'hésitation à y rentrer! Après s'être bombatomisés de spray solaire, les garçons étaient prêts à explorer les fonds tandis que les filles profitaient du soleil et/ou d'un bon bouquin pour se relaxer...

The barbecue worked out pretty good obviously as seen, we had no trouble getting it started (a gas bbq) and the grilled meat was delicious!

Aucun problème d'allumage pour le barbeuc vu qu'il tournait au gaz, la viande et autres légumes étaient très bons comme peut en témoigner cette photo!

The last night, we went out (a block or two) to experience the local customs and found that they eat similar stuff to us, strange right? Of course, fish was the main attraction along with some cocktails and we finished off with some ice cream at a parlor, before the mojito pong!

Pour la dernière nuit, nous sommes sortis manger un morceau au resto local et y boire quelques boissons bien rafraichissantes! Au menu donc, poissons et autres fruits de mer pour finir avec une bonne glace taillée XXL sur le chemin du retour, avant d'enchainer avec le mojito pong!

As we were all warmed up (didn't need much in any case), we got to have a ping pong contest at the house, with the AC blasting and the mojitos flying! The boys found an alternative while waiting their turn and created mojito pong, with a lot of collateral damage!

Séquence ping-pong à l'intérieur, la clim et les tournées de mojitos battant son plein pour nous garder frais, quoique... Les garçons avaient trouvé l'alternative mojito-pong pendant que les filles s'essayaient au vrai, avec tous les dommages collatéraux que ça comporte!

And there we are, Monday was already there and we had to resume our duties the next day, but doing it all tanned and refreshed makes it a bit more bearable!
Le lundi était donc notre jour de départ, nous quittons le Golfe et le sable chaud pour revenir à la grisaille new yorkaise reprendre nos activités premières... La suite pour bientôt!
