Blood, sweat & trails

*Billet écrit à deux, Lyly pour la partie française et Arben pour l'anglais / Post written by both of us, Lyly for the French part and Arben for the English one.

A refaire!

A long weekend was ahead of us, starting by Thursday. We spent Independance Day relaxing by the pool, grilling and drinking some rosé. The little ones are finally staying in their floaters, which gave us some time to rest our hands!

The next morning, Amy & Lorik woke us up early and by the time we packed and loaded everything for our trip to the Adirondacks, it was already 8am. It was only after an hour or so that I remembered forgetting the wine. Fortunately, the duck breasts have been packed by my other half.
We arrived at a crowded Lake Placid around 2pm. Since we couldn't get a spot nowhere near the Mirror Lake, we headed out to get some groceries for the weekend. We even scored one of those 2-kid kart, Amy and Lorik had fun playing in it.
And since we couldn't keep them in their car seats forever, we made a stop by the Lake Placid elementary school. Stretch the legs, change diapers and off we were to the Rock and River Lodge in Keene. The Climber's Lodge was really impressive and we set up our room for the next two nights. The rest of the crew was coming in from Montréal, but they were running a bit late due to traffic at the border. We made huge amounts of pasta bolognese (well, for 10 people) and, past the acquaintances,  a lot of it got devoured once the remainder arrived.

After a hearty breakfast the next morning, we were off to the Indian Head trail! We bought a child carrier/backpack and borrowed one for the adventure. After some adjustment time for both the kids and us, we were hiking big time in the woods! The scenery was superb, we even spotted some wild strawberries and had a taste of nature in its simplest forms. I was carrying Lorik up until the lunch break, Lyly had Amy in the other backpack. She didn't seem to like it as she was fussy for a good amount of time. After an hour or so break by the falls, we switched around. I had Amy this time and she did seem to enjoy facing the road and being carried maharadjah style. Lorik wasn't that happy but ultimately, they both fell asleep on the way back.

Back at the lodge, they were up and running right after the bath. We took one also to recharge and drank plenty of water. The kids stayed up until 8:30pm or so, and then it was our turn to relax a bit, starting with the aperitif. The Montréal crew brought 2 12 packs of beer along with 2 magnums of wine, red and white.
Although we got a few unwanted visitors (mosquitos and the owner's dog), we stayed out on the patio until the grill was lit up. The duck breasts didn't take long and we were back at the big table inside. The meat was awesome, along with the potatoes and salad! Great meal in great company!
We woke up the next morning with some body aches, but it was expected given the circumstances. After another great breakfast, it was time to pack things up, load the car and say good-bye to the Caribous and their friends.
The drive back home was long, filled with delays and accidents, but we made it around 6pm. By the time we unpacked, bathed the little ones, cleaned and ate, it was well into the night... I had to prepare for my trip to San Francisco the next day.
It's never easy to say good-bye to your loved ones at the airport, even if you're out for a few days! But I know that my better half will handle it, just like she always does. A true and beautiful warrior of a woman!
